The Story Behind Beyond the Gates

Beyond the Gates Foundation was inspired by the lived experience of a U.S. Army veteran who spent 34 years incarcerated and returned to the community without the reentry support, resources, or practical tools needed to navigate life beyond the gates.
That experience revealed a gap that too many people face: returning home is only the beginning. Without guidance, opportunity, mentoring, education, employment support, and connections to community resources, rebuilding a life can be overwhelming.
Beyond the Gates Foundation was created to help close that gap — providing practical support, encouragement, opportunity, and pathways toward stability, purpose, and successful community reintegration.

Why We Started

We believe people returning home deserve more than a release date. They deserve the tools, support, relationships, and opportunities that can help them build a future.

Our Mission

Second Chances. Stronger Futures

Beyond the Gates Foundation is committed to supporting formerly incarcerated individuals and returning veterans as they navigate the transition back into their communities.

Through reentry support, mentoring, education, workforce readiness, resource navigation, life-skills support, and community reintegration, we help people build stability, confidence, purpose, and pathways toward stronger futures.
